It used to be a right of passage-to get a Facebook, you had to have a valid college email address. In the name of turning a buck and competing with other social networking sites, (Myspace), Facebook has expanded to the open market of the Internet.

While Facebook seems to be more stable in the past and present of it's existence compared to the short-lived fad of Myspace, we know just about everyone's got one today. Even parents wanting to keep up with the times, or their kids are beginning to get them.

However, what is about Facebook that has drug like effects? I'm not talking about the kind that get you high, and makes your do things you'd regret, no, Facebook has been known to get it's users into a little bit of trouble, (i.e. drunk commenting, and status updates that let your girlfriend know you weren't studying like you said); specifically I'm talking about the ones who are on library computers, in the middle of their paper, but still cannot tear themselves away from 'browsing' Facebook.

Moving away from how irritating it is to need to do work on a school computer, but Joe Schmo would rather look at how wasted he got this weekend on his Facebook updates, there is something wrong when students can't kick their addiction. Whether it's an addiction to technology, or to staying in the constant know, we have become a nosy society.

Alyssa Rodriguez knows what her friends from home did this past weekend, even though she was out of the country on vacation. "I was in the Bahamas for the weekend", says Rodriguez, "and I must have made six or seven Twitter updates, and checked my Facebook about 10 times." If we can't leave the Facebook in Albany to relax on a beach in the Bahamas, forget about cold weather and technology for just a couple of days, then it may not be a certifiable addiction, but it is an addiction nonetheless.

Your Top 5 Reasons to kick the habit:

1. It's a distraction from school/work.

2. There's a potential for being stalked.

3. The possibility that you are a stalker (or could become one).

4. It's probably taking up too much of your time.

5. Get out of the digital world, and into the real world to start living!
