Its Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, and Ashley Southerland wakes up in the Dutch Tower at 12:38 p.m. She calls her friend to wake her up and schedule brunch.

1:07 p.m. - She arrives in the Indian Quad dining hall and eats an omelet, pork sausage, and a croissant.
2:16 p.m. - On her way back to her room to clean up.
3:04 p.m. - Nap time

When she is awakened by the noise in her suite at 7:11 p.m. she gets up to use the restroom and get dressed. Her stomach growls and she's soon on her way to the campus center to get something to eat. To her surprise Wendy's, Sbarro's, Zepps Sandwiches, and her favorite soup place are all closed by 8.

She attempts to make it to the dining hall, only to find several unappetizing dishes and unsatisfying deserts. So she heads back to the campus center to get a sandwich from the Deli at Outakes.

"I wanted a tuna sandwich," she yelled as she hurried to open the door. "If I hadn't slept so long I probably would've made it to at least Wendy's for a meal swipe."

"Before I came to college I ate on a schedule, but its so difficult now. There's always so much going on, I'm constantly busy. And finding time to eat, sleep, and do work is hard."

Southerland is not the only college student to suffer from sleep deprivation, and other unhealthy habits.

In Part II of this article I explain five unhealthy habits that many college students struggle with, and how they can easily change themselves for the better.
