Flax Seed

Flax seeds are becoming a popular trend of nutrition buffs. They are rich with omega-3 fatty acids which are essential to a balanced diet. They also contain antioxidants and are rich with fiber. Aside from raw nutrients, they have been proven in many studies to lower cholesterol levels as well as blood pressure in some cases. It even prevents platelets from becoming sticky which reduces the risk of heart attack. Flax seed is a great source of carbohydrates as well. Try these out, and ideally make them the backbone of your diet.

How to prepare it?

Flax seeds are diverse so you are in luck. They go great sprinkled on yogurt, cereal, or salads. You can even substitute them for eggs in certain recipes. Try adding them to a smoothie if you own a blender.

Egg Whites

Did you know there are 211mg of cholesterol and 5g of fat in an egg? Did you know that almost all of those nutrients are found in the yolk? Conversely there are over 4g of protein in the white of the egg. By the process of elimination, removal of the yolk creates one of the healthiest, and highest recommended power foods. For those looking to tack on muscle, throwing in egg whites can get your needed daily protein where it needs to be. For those looking to drop weight, these are filling, but nearly calorie free. Egg whites are revered by nutritionist, and one of the healthiest foods from a purely nutritional standpoint.

How to prepare it?

Go ahead and prepare them the same way you would prepare a normal egg. You can scramble them, make an omelet, or you could use them to make something like French toast. Egg Whites are pretty limitless in their uses.

Broccoli

Kids shield your eyes, because let’s be honest, you won’t be eating this one anytime soon. As for the rest of you, Broccoli is fantastic if you are looking to build a healthier you. Broccoli contains a couple of cool little nutrients you have unlikely ever heard of. Lutein is a powerful antioxidant, which research shows may prevent colon cancer. Sulforophane is a chemical that is also shown to prevent the growth of cancerous tumors. They are both quite prevalent in Broccoli. It is also rich in Vitamin C and fiber, which are also shown to be cancer preventative. It certainly can’t hurt to add Broccoli to your diet.

How to prepare it?

The internet is your friend, because broccoli can be found in thousands of different recipes. Stir fries, and pasta are very common and delicious uses of broccoli. Some of you might even like it raw.
