Exercise is something more people have become aware of recently and as obesity rises in the United States it is becoming more important to learn how to eat right and maintain a balanced and healthy life at an early age. Getting involved in sports teaches young kids that exercise can be fun and that it is important to stay fit.
As they do every year, gym memberships continue to rise as the holiday season quickly approaches us and New Year resolutions start to kick in. As people start evaluating their lives and try to put their health into perspective, along with gym membership increase comes the demand for personal training.
John Higgins, Senior Health and Wellness Director at the YMCA of Saratoga, is accustomed to seeing new members every day. People that have no idea where to start or what to do.
"People that are new at exercising don't know where to start. That's where I come in."
There are many people that come into the gym who have never seen a treadmill before or don't know how to start working out because they are afraid of hurting themselves. Personal training is a way to teach these new-comers how to use certain machines and what weights they should be using in order to get the results they are looking for.
It is the first step at getting acquired to exercise. A lot of times you will see heavier, out-of-shape people using personal trainers, but also you will notice a plethora of people who are in shape and appear to not need a trainer. Not all the time are clients out-of-shape but instead are just looking for someone to push their limits.
Personal trainers are meant to get the best out of their clients. They are taught to push the limits (within reason) of their clients and to give them the best workout every time they come to a session. It is meant to give them the most out of their money but also because more likely than not, they would never push themselves as hard as they would with someone encouraging them to do more repetitions or exceeding what they think they can do.
