Running outdoors According to personal trainer David Heller the best way to burn calories is to get a good card workout in. A full body body workout is the best way to ensure that you are losing more pounds and turning that fat into muscle. "If people just got up and ran around they would have a healthier lifestyle," said Heller.
Mountain Climbing Mountain climbing can burn up to 400 calories an hour. "Mountain climbing is a good way to burn calories and get outside to workout. It is healthy and refreshing," said Heller. When you are mountain climbing you are climbing uphill the whole way so that you are working your upper legs and your butt muscles the most. Some experts believe that going outside and getting the nutrient Vitamin D can fight the winter blues.
Cycling Cycling is another good way to stay healthy. Bikes can be relatively inexpensive and provide a great cardio workout. "When I am cycling I can feel all my muscles working together. It doesn't just improve my leg muscle strength but it improves my abs and my arms as well," said Emily Blakeslee, a competitive cycler. Stationary bikes also provide great cardio workout and you never have to leave your house.
Going For A Walk It doesn't burn as many calories as running but it is a good way to get out of the house and get some exercise. "The important thing is to stay active," said Heller. "You can't improve your health sitting on your couch." Walking is an inexpensive simple plan to stay healthy and you can do it with friends.
Eating Right Whether you are trying to gain weight or lose weight the important thing to remember is to stay away from saturated fats. "Things like butter and sugars can clog the arteries in your heart which lead to heart attacks and strokes. The important thing is to eat a balanced diet," said Nina Marinello, a sports nutritionist at the University at Albany. According to Marinello eating a balanced meal includes vegetables, meat, and fruit with every meal. She says that the key to eating sweets is only eat what you absolutely love. "If you love cheesecake and it is there, eat a piece. If there are peanut butter cookies leave it because you don't need it."
