Illinois Senate unanimously disqualified Illinois governor Milorad "Rod" Blagojevich from holding public office, 59-0.

Blagojevich was the eighth governor in United States history to be both impeached and ousted from officiating.

This was, in affect, a "political death sentence," said CNN correspondent Susan Roesgen.

The Illinois Information Service publicized coverage of the Senate's second vote, at 6:00 pm. Thursday January, 29.

Illinois governor Patrick Quinn was sworn in and filled the position opened by the impeachment.

Blagojevich was impeached on January 14th for misconduct after being arrested in December on federal corruption charges.

Conspiracy investigation was led by the offices of United States Attorney for the District of Northern Illinois, Patrick Fitzgerald.
