A crowd of about 150 students cluttered campus center 375 on Wednesday night for the final debate between Senator John McCain and Senator Barack Obama. There were about 60 circular tables to sitting groups and one huge projector to show the debate. Signs were hung and you could tell instantly people were here to cheer on their candidates rather than just to be here. At 9pm both candidates sat at the round table ready for the debate to begin.

Round one: The economy and Wall Street. Senator McCain started off by saying "he knows America is hurting and angry and they have every right to be." The senator proposed a 72 million dollar plan for tax breaks. His plan is to start short term with homeowners. Out of the 750 million he wants to take 300 of it and buy mortgages. He thinks this should be a top priority. Senator Obama has a 60 million dollar plan where he would give breaks to the middle class. He states, "This is the worst financial situation since the great depression." He doesn't want to make the CEO richer. He also wants to have renegotiations in mortgages. McCain took a hit at Obama when talking about a plumber Obama had met in Ohio who wanted to start a small business. McCain used this to show how Obama is taxing small business. By the time the debate in this subject was over everyone thought it was a comedy act, by McCain facials and because he was laughing so much. Lindsay Onifather a student watching the debate said, " I'm all for Obama, We should be helping the people less fortunate rather than CEO, and we need to help then now , I don't care about mortgages." John Mcroy on the other hand said, "I agree with McCain, government should not control the economy." By a show of hand on this subject this round went to Obama though. O-1 M-0

Round two: America debt. The deficit could reach to a trillion. Obama stance is net spending. "Pay as you go." He wants America to invest. He says, "People have to save for the future." Obama argued that McCain was for 4/5 budgets that Bush is for and look where he has gotten us. He wants to start saving and doing things for energy, and to finance education since that's who would be making our economy better in the future. McCain took more hits at Obama on this subject; rather then really explain his own stance. He did say that he wasn't Bush and if he wanted he could have ran against Bush 4 years ago." McCain is for energy independent, and he said something along the lines that he would be good at getting rid of things we spend money on that we don't need, but doesn't really say what. Nikki Gelber says, "how can we choose McCain if he can't tell us what he going to do, he very broad right now." Mackenzie Senator stated, "I'm all for energy independent we need that here and now." By show of hands on this subject Obama wins this round. O-2 M-0
