Cailin Kovalsky, 20, is a junior at SUNY Albany and a registered democrat. She was glad to see that the economy was a major topic with both candidates, but felt that McCain should have focused more on the issues more rather than so much attacking on Obama.
"I was impressed by the fact that Obama was not sidetracked by McCain's attacks and instead would just answer the questions and clear up false accusations," she said.
Elise Quinones, 18, is a freshman at Dartmouth majoring in government. She said that she could also see an increase in tension between McCain and Obama.
"I thought it was a good debate," the democrat said, "I felt strongly about Obama's pledge to expand healthcare and lower the costs of healthcare."
Shirley Shenker, 80, is a democrat as well, supporting Obama. She thinks that he is a stronger candidate, and would make a much better president than McCain.
"He doesn't lose his head, and you can see in many instances that McCain is getting rattled," she said. "His eyes were starting to bulge, and you can't have someone like that as a president.
Shenker is also looking forward to Obama's healthcare plan.
"Obama said that everyone in this country will have healthcare," she said. "They will be able to pay for it, or they will get it through the government if they can't."
She then talked about how Obama believes that it is a woman's right to choose whether she wants to have an abortion or not, which was another reason why she supports him.
"I think that Obama would make a better president because of all the things he has to offer," she said. "I believe he carried himself the way a president should carry himself, and he shows that in the way he speaks."
