If you ask students around campus what UAlbany is known for, their responses never really highlight the school's athletic teams. However, this season the UAlbany men's basketball team has blown themselves out of the water. The team is 13-3 and up against Vermont this Saturday in the America East Conference Men's Basketball Championship. Head coach Will Brown has nothing but positive words towards the team and their success.

Q: At the beginning of the season, did you predict UAlbany would have so much success?
A: I thought we had a chance to be good this year. I felt that we were a talented team with solid overall depth. I felt that role acceptance was going to be critical because of our improved talent level. Another concern was going to be how we handled the high expectations that surrounded the program.

Q: Who would you consider to be your most valuable player?
A: Jamar Wilson is our best player and most talented player. However, Kirsten Zollner might be our MVP because he brings such a big presence to the court and has played very consistent basketball for us.

Q: How do you feel about being on ESPN's Bracket Busters?
A:

"We are thrilled to be playing in the ESPN Bracket Buster. It is great exposure for the university and our program. Playing on a national stage on ESPN will be great for recruiting."

"We are thrilled to be playing in the ESPN Bracket Buster. It is great exposure for the university and our program. Playing on a national stage on ESPN2 will be great for recruiting."

Q: Considering you have a pretty diverse team, class standing wise, do you see success continuing in the next few seasons?
A: One of my goals for our program is to compete for an America East championship every year. We have a fairly young team as we will return three starters next year and some key reserves. The future is bright!

Q: Which game thus far would you consider to be the most challenging, and why?
A: Our game at Binghamton was our most difficult. It was for first place in the America East Conference. The game was a sell out with 5,000 fans in the arena. We were down 13 points with 6 minutes to go and found a way to come back to get a win in a very hostile environment.

Q: Describe the UAlbany men's basketball team of the 2006/2006 season in three words:
A: In three words? Determined. Committed. Poised.

Q: Have you seen an increase in attendance at the games given the success of the team this season?
A: Attendance has increased each year. The big purple growl was a sell out. Our crowds are very good when we play while school is in session. The student involvement has increased and hopefully that will continue. When you win it is easier to draw crowds

Q: How many library hours are the members of the team required to do each week? Do they find it helpful or useful?
A: Each member of our team is required to do 6 hours of study hall in the library or the academic support office each week. It is very useful for us. Our guy's understand that they are in college to get a degree. That is the #1 priority!

Q: How far do you think you will make it in the America East Tournament? Is there any particular team you'd rather not go against?
A: I think we are capable of winning the America East Tournament. With that being said it will be a very difficult task! They call it March madness for a reason. You need to play well, stay healthy, and you need to be lucky as well! We respect every team in our league but we are not afraid to play any of them!

Q: What is your favorite part about coaching for the Great Dane's men's basketball team?
A: My favorite part of coaching is the interaction on a daily basis with the student-athletes in our program. I enjoy watching them grow as people, students, and players. I do my best to try and be a positive influence and have an impact on their lives!
