Issue date: 3/8/04 Section: Sexuality
Speaker 1: Wendy (Protestant) United Church of Christ
- Sexuality is God's gift
- Sexuality is not only to procreate
- Sexuality should be discussed in church
- Opened church in the 1970's to homosexuals (believes it's not a sin
and not a choice).
- Abortion= pro-choice
Speaker 2: Gonglis (Islamic Religion)
- Sex= highest form of expression
- Spiritually/physically rewardable act
- Against abortion and killing of a fetus
- God created everything in pairs, men and women are clothing for
other
Speaker 3: Rabbi Deb (Judaism)
- Jewish text states, "The wife has the right to sex, the husband has
the duty to provide."
- Premarital sex is not as big of a deal as in other religions
- Sexual relations between two women are hardly mentioned ("no
penis, no sex")
- Male homosexuality is looked at the worst
- Abortion= save mother before shild
Speaker 4: Rajesa and Bijal (Hinduism)
- Sexuality is only to procreate
- Hinduism is self-realization, it's unnecessary to have sex for pleasure
during that time
- Homophobic- all sins a person can atone for
- Lose of semen= lose of power! Those who are celibate are viewed as
very powerful and focused on God (not even masturbation)
Other Information:
- 90% of the world considers themselves religious (Wendy)
- Most religions are trying to open gates to more homosexuals (It's
how God created them)
- Islamic religion: masturbation is permissable as long as it is not
habitual. Looked at as an obligation for sexual release.
- Bijal didn't talk, her husband clearly stated in the introduction of the
program that, "He would be speaking on behalf of his wife." As if she
wasn't there, didn't speak, or didn't understand what was going on.
(Completely mute the whole time).
