The third ward was enriched by sounds of celebration Tuesday night where outside of the Grace and Holy Innocent Church on Robin St. in Albany stood proud and happy people, wishing on change that a new president may bring. One car slowly swerved curbside letting out three teenagers who ran inside to step behind the curtains of one the five district voting booths.

It’s that time of year again. The time of year when everyone is walking into their assigned polling places, hoping that the lever they push down makes a difference. Hoping the people in line with them are choosing that same lever. Walking into a polling place after 8:00 pm is a completely different experience.

The country changing election of 2008 took place, at least in a very small part in the gyms of two schools in Albany, NY. The poll takers sat there from 6:00AM to 9:00PM waiting for people to cast their votes.

November the 4. The Albany Times Union reports that young voters came out in record
numbers "more than twice the amount for the 2004 election." At the rental office in The Capital Woods Apartment complex, two voter register booths were set up for those in that district to vote.

Despite my nerves of driving to an area in which I'd never been before, nerves quickly turned to excitement and a sense of relief when I walked into my assigned polling area. The excitement came from my deep sense of obligation as a citizen to vote and it looked as if there were many who believed the same.
