It's a sunny, Saturday afternoon in Holyoke, Mass., and in the middle of Heritage State Park, a merry-go-round spins, its lights twinkling despite the daylight. Parents sit donning birthday caps, giving never-ending dispensers of crinkled dollar bills to children entranced by the bright lights and painted horses that swirl underneath the cover of the shaded pavilion.

Confused about all those different class numbers, sections and department abbreviations? Don't be. Screw distribution requirements. When you get down to it, any college really only offers five different types of classes.

A new sculpture cemented outside Keene State College's Redfern Arts Center on Oct. 30 was meant to be a welcoming symbol to those walking towards the building, but some students would sooner run away from it than walk past it.
"It scared the daylights out of me the first time I saw it," senior Joe Sharkey said.

Meag Kennedy, a senior art major at the University of Massachusetts, could be found at Flywheel, a music venue located in Easthampton, Mass., most any Friday or Saturday night when she was in high school.
A native of Agawam, Kennedy went to the Flywheel's dirt cheap punk shows as often as she could.
